ELLSWORTH AIR FORCE BASE, S.D. — A B-1B Lancer from Ellsworth Air Force Base crashed while attempting to land at the base around 5:50 p.m. today. The aircraft, on a training mission at the time of the accident, had four aircrew members on board, all of whom ejected safely.
The accident occurred during adverse weather condition and dense fog, according to The Weather Channel.
Ellsworth Air Force Base, situated in the Black Hills near Rapid City, South Dakota, is one of two bases that house B-1 bombers. The 28th Bomb Wing, located at the base, operates more than 20 B-1s. The U.S. Air Force currently has 45 B-1s in its total fleet.
