Sailors from the USS St. Louis (LCS 19) teamed up with the U.S. Coast Guard to construct tents at the U.S. Naval Station Guantanamo Bay, in preparation for the arrival of deported immigrants scheduled for today.

The collaborative effort highlights the military’s role in supporting immigration processes at the base. The tents, set up to temporarily house the immigrants, are part of the logistics required to manage the arrivals. The first phase of expansion will increase the center’s capacity to approximately 2,000 migrants, with additional phases to follow at Gitmo.

The operation reflects ongoing cooperation among various branches of the U.S. military and other government agencies to address complex border and immigration issues, said the Navy’s Fourth Fleet officials.
