The Pentagon provided the following on the military personnel activated in relief efforts in the wake of Hurricane Helene.

• Service Member Deployment for Relief Efforts:
  • Total active service members: 6,500 across six states.
  • Florida: Nearly 3,500 Guardsmen activated.
  • Georgia: Approximately 1,400 Guardsmen on duty.
  • South Carolina: About 500 Guardsmen were activated, plus two helicopters were used for recovery efforts.
• Other State Activations:
  • Tennessee: Around 130 Guardsmen and seven helicopters activated.
  • Virginia: Nearly 60 Guardsmen activated, plus one helicopter and several high-water vehicles.
  • North Carolina: Focus area due to historic flooding, with over 800 local Guardsmen supported by 80 from other states (Connecticut, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Iowa, Ohio, New York, South Carolina, and Florida) and 13 additional helicopters.
• Federal Support:
  • US Northern Command: Providing active duty support to FEMA.
  • US Army Corps of Engineers: Offering emergency power planning and response teams in Georgia, and conducting inspections of dams, levees, and bridges in Tennessee and Kentucky, as well as providing temporary power in North Carolina.
