U.S. Conducts Airstrikes on Houthi UAV Threat in Yemen

Featured in:

U.S. Central Command forces carried out airstrikes targeting an Iranian-backed Houthi Unmanned Aerial Vehicle ground control station and 10 Houthi one-way UAVs.

The strike occurred Jan. 31 after U.S. forces identified the UAV ground control station and one-way attack UAVs located in Houthi-controlled areas of Yemen, deeming them an immediate threat to both merchant vessels and U.S. Navy ships in the vicinity.

According to CBS news anchor Norah O’Donnell, a senior defense official in Bahrain has said that F-18 Super Hornets from the aircraft carrier, USS Dwight D. Eisenhower, conducted airstrikes on the 10 unmanned drones in western Yemen, preventing them from launching.

The reported location is in close proximity to the previously reported incident in Al Hudaydah. Central Command also confirmed that the United States executed unilateral self-defense operations in Yemen to neutralize UAVs that were being prepared for launch at commercial vessels in the region.
