Navy Jet Crashes into San Diego Harbor; Pilots Rescued by Fishermen

SAN DIEGO — A dramatic rescue unfolded in San Diego Bay after a Navy jet crashed into the water near 1401 Shelter Island Drive on Wednesday morning. According to the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department, two pilots managed to eject safely from their E/A-18G Growler jet just before it went down. A nearby fishing boat quickly scooped the pilots from the water, with their rescue completed within a minute by the U.S. Coast Guard and other federal responders.

After being initially rescued by the fishing boat, the pilots were transferred to a U.S. Customs and Border Protection boat and then taken to UC San Diego Health in Hillcrest. Although details about their injuries were not fully disclosed, officials stated that the pilots were in stable condition. The quick response from local and federal teams highlighted the effective emergency procedures in place for such incidents.
