24th Houthi Attack in Southern Red Sea Endangers Commercial Shipping

Featured in:

On the evening of Jan. 2, the Iranian-supported Houthi rebels launched two anti-ship ballistic missiles (ASBMs) from areas under their control in Yemen into the Southern Red Sea.

The missiles fell into the sea near several commercial vessels, which reported the impacts but fortunately did not sustain any damage. According to U.S. Central Command, these missile strikes pose a significant threat to the safety of numerous innocent mariners and continue to disrupt the smooth operation of international trade routes.

The shipping company has suspended all transits through the Red Sea until further notice.

This recent attack marks the 24th such incident targeting merchant ships in the Southern Red Sea since November 19.
