Governor Ron DeSantis’ recent criticism of President Joe Biden, labeling him as ‘weak’ in defense of the US, is not only short-sighted but downright irresponsible. While it’s certainly within a governor’s rights to express their views, such statements should be grounded in fact and consider the full scope of the situation.
The facts are clear: when two Russian warships and two support vessels sailed some 30 miles past Florida, they were met with a formidable response from the US and its allies. Arleigh Burke destroyers, a Coast Guard cutter, and even a Canadian warship tracked their movements, ensuring the Russians knew our vigilance. Beneath the surface, a hunter-killer US submarine silently lurked, a lethal deterrent to any potential aggression. Furthermore, a Navy aircraft equipped to surveil and sink Russian subs and surface ships monitored the situation from above.
Given this substantial display of military might, the governor’s accusations of weakness ring hollow. It’s disheartening to see our leaders resort to political grandstanding rather than recognizing the efforts of our armed forces to safeguard our nation.
DeSantis should take note: our nation’s defense does not lie solely in the hands of the President, but in the tireless efforts of our men and women in uniform. These guardians of our freedom deserve recognition and support, not misguided political potshots. If the governor wants to talk about weakness, he should start by examining his own lack of appreciation for the forces that keep us safe.
