Tanker Hit By Houthis in Red Sea

The oil tanker Marlin Luanda caught fire in the Red Sea after a missile attack by Yemen’s Houthi fighters. The incident occurred 60 nautical miles southeast of Aden, Yemen. The vessel’s owner, Trafigura, confirmed that the fire had been extinguished after 20 hours and the crew is safe.

The attack was reportedly in response to “American-British aggression against our country,” according to a Houthi spokesperson. The tanker, carrying a flammable liquid called naphtha from Russia, was aided by USS Carney, Indian and French navy vessels in controlling the fire. The attack is part of a series of Houthi actions against ships in the Red Sea, citing support for Palestinians and opposition to Israel’s actions in Gaza

The French Navy released this image of the tanker Marlin Luanda, burning in the Gulf of Aden last night after a Houthi missile attack. The French frigate Alsace, the USS Carney, and INS Visakhapatnam responded to the vessel, finally controlling the fire after 20 hours.
