The U.S. Patriot missile defense system at the Al-Asad Air Base in western Iraq faced a challenging situation today during an attack by forces backed by Iran.
The base, where U.S. troops are stationed, reportedly had to use at least 15 of its missiles to counter the incoming rockets or ballistic missiles and several have hit the base leading to injured U.S. personnel.
UPDATE ABOUT THE AIR BASE: Central Command is currently in the process of conducting ongoing assessments to determine the extent of damage. Several U.S. personnel are currently undergoing evaluations for potential traumatic brain injuries, while it has been confirmed that at least one Iraqi service member has sustained injuries. There are about 2,500 U.S. military personnel and contractors stationed at the base.
This is a developing story.
